How to Replace an audi tt key fob G28 Engine Speed Sensor

In this video Charles the humble mechanic demonstrates how to replace the G28 engine speed sensor. The sensor is situated on the edge cost of audi key replacement the transmission above the flywheel ring gear. It transmits a signal to the ECU via the grey wire T55/49 and then to the tachometer in the instrument cluster.

The grey wire is located on the outside of the transmission, just above the flywheel ring. The sensor sends a signal via the grey wire to pin T55/49. The ECU utilizes this information to regulate the amount of fuel and boost. It also sends an indicator to the G5 Tachometer in instrument cluster.

The sensor is used as a reference point to connect with the G40 Camshaft Position Sensor. The ecu must be aware when the crankshaft is TDC and where the camshaft is so it can activate spark and injectors according to the situation.

If this sensor fails the ECU will display the P00160 error, which means the Crank Shaft and Intake Camshaft are not in sync, possibly indicating the chain stretching or a jump link on the upper timing chain. The code won't appear without the additional information supplied by other sensors (G4 or G40).

Testing is a bit challenging because there are two connector pins and they serve different purposes but the most effective method to test it is to measure resistance between the sensor and the ECU. If the sensor is functional, it should read approximately 1000 ohms. Check for signs of coolant, or oil in the connector audi a3 key car key cover (yd.yichang.cc) bay if you have issues with this component.

2. Injectors

Yesterday accelerating full speed from highway paytoll i had an abrupt drop in power as if the engine was running out of gas or the injectors aren't firing at all. I pulled out the spark plugs this morning and found that 3 were drenched in gasoline and the 4th was dry. When I crank the engine with no sparks, i place a tissue on the top of each hole in the injector, the 3 drenched with gazoline jump out but the 4th stay shut. I checked the ground connection on ECU pins 14/55,30/55 and 48/55 I get zero Ohm. I'm assuming that the issue is somewhere else.

I also tried to reset the PID with no success. The car will start if the G28 is unplugged and is running fine when it is connected however it is experiencing intermittent misfires at higher RPM. The coolant sensor (G62) even when unplugged, still shows an ice temperature of -49c. I also noticed that the oil gauge in the cockpit shows 2 bar while the actual pressure is 0.

I'm not certain what to do, i think i've pretty much ruled out everything else. But i'm worried that i might have missed something. Please let me know should you have any suggestions! TIA!

3. Fuel Pump

The fuel pump in the g28 is activated by a signal sent from the RPM sensor. The GM-style transmitter is similar to the G4 sender, and both operate on the 80,100,200, UrS, and RS2 vehicles. You can easily locate a spare in a wrecking shop or parts store. It is easy to test them: simply put your DMM into resistance mode and determine the distance between pins 1 and 2 (with the bump at the connector's end facing upwards). They should be infinite Ohms.

4. ECU

The ECU of our 20vt turbo (3B AAN ABY ADU) engines must know both the position and speed of the crankshaft to determine timing of fuel injectors, etc. To do this, it makes use of a Crank Position Sensor (G4) and an Engine Speed Sensor (G28). If either of these go badly, you will see codes on the diagnostic scanner which could cause engine shut down.

The signs of a failing G28 sensor include an inaccurate rev counter for the gearbox and gears that shift faster than normal and/or a misfire when in gear. It is possible that the sensor is failing and needs to be replaced if you encounter any of these signs. They're cheap and easy to find especially in the case of an Bosch model like ours. Alternately, GM's version this component is an excellent choice.

5. Tachometer

A malfunctioning engine speed sensor could be the reason behind a slew of issues with your vehicle. It's an essential component of your replacement audi keys's transmission, because it communicates to the ECU about how fast or slow the vehicle's crankshaft is rotating. This sensor could cause the transmission to malfunction and other components in the car to be affected.

The G5 engine sensor is located at the edge of transmission, above the flywheel ring. It transmits a signal via an uncolored wire to the ECU pin T55/49. The ECU then uses and processes the signal to control the flow of fuel, timig and boost, and also transmitting it to the G5 tachometer inside the instrument cluster. You can test the sensor for any failure by checking the continuity between it and the tachometer, between ECU pin T55/49 and the instrument cluster connection via pin T6a/1 (trace [79trace [79]) as well as between T6a/1, and the instrument cluster pin T26a/12. You should detect an average resistance of 1000 ohms in these areas. This is a standard part across the audi a1 Key fob 80 100 200, UrS and RS2 range from 1985 MC until the 1997 UrS AAN and 1995 RS2 ADU so good parts could be found in wrecking yards.suzuki-logo.jpg
